Hope is such a good knitting word. Because we can plan, prepare and work our fingers raw for hours, weeks and months. And all the planning and preparing helps a lot, but we don’t really know what the result will be in the end. And no matter how hard we work, some of our creations are bound to be losers.
Eris is coming right along. I “chose” not to do the cabled raglan increases. Ok, actually I didn’t read the pattern closely enough to notice them until after I split the sleeves. The yarn is rustic enough that they might’ve been too much anyway.
The fit is on the big side. I came close to frogging and doing a smaller size, but the waist shaping has helped. I’m hopeful that the fabric will soften and drape better after a good bath.

I’m really excited about this project. I’ve learned a lot about sweater construction, fit and fabric since the last sweater I made. I still have lots to learn, but I learn best under the pressure of doing it. And I’m hopeful that it’ll all come out right in the end!

A FO! Ok, I knit it in the fall and just seamed it last week, but here it is.

Pattern: Droplet Hat from Knitting Nature. This was a fun pattern to knit. My first bobbles. And although it took me 6 months to seam it, the knitting just took a couple of days.
Yarn: This was the first two skeins knit from my massive Debbie Bliss Aran Tweed stash. Through a fluke in the ordering process, Janette sent me the wrong color Aran Tweed in my order, then resent it again in the wrong color. Anyway, I somehow ended up with 5 bags of the stuff, two in Teal and three in Green. The green is becoming my Eris cardigan, whose progress is way too modest to post about today.

I wish I converted this to knitting in the round like Carolyn did, but she’s awesome and I cut corners. I saw this picture and realized I need to redo this seam! Ick.

Oh well. It’s a nice squishy hat, a little itchy, but big enough for my big hair and that’s saying a lot.

I’m loving the cable pattern on the Eris collar.

And although I do not hate the yarn, I’m not exactly happy with it. The cables look scrunched and the yarn is not accenting the beauty of the cables as much as I would like. Perhaps it will bloom with a wash more than I think it will. This is my first serious attempt at cables so I’m not sure what to expect. I do love the tweedy flecks.
I wish I had done a provisional cast on for the collar to make knitting the left side of the collar more seamless like here. Live and learn, but I’m not frogging it. My join isn’t too bad.

My wrists are not loving the cables. I fell on the ice a few weeks ago and my wrists have not been the same since. It might be time to go to a doctor… but first, I’ll keep knitting!

The snowy days lead to a lot of uncertainty around here. E was home today with us because school was cancelled. There wasn’t enough snow to really play, but we had fun feeding the birds and watching Mary Poppins.
Here’s a little Sapphire Magenta to brighten the day.

Patterns: Yes you’ve seen them everywhere, the fabulous My So-Called Scarf and Bonnie Marie Burn’s Vodoo Wristwarmers. Soft, pilly beautiful Malabrigo.
I need to bust into working on something, but I’ve lost the sock bug just a bit. I’m ready to try another sweater. I had some sizing issues on the NSS Cardi – it came out too big. I washed and dried it and it helped quite a bit. I haven’t done the crochet edge, but I think I’ll try it without so I can move on.
I don’t have a big stash of sweater yarns. In fact, all I really have is a boatload of Debbie Bliss Aran Tweed. This isn’t my favorite yarn for this sweater, but I decided to try it with the Eris Cardigan. I’ve done lots of swatching and measurement taking to make sure I’ve picked the best size for me. This is a real weakness for me, so let’s hope it pays off!

A little Backyard Leaves from Scarf Style modelled by my Bry at Christmas time. I never blogged about this because I ended up disappointed in the finished product. I loved loved loved the pattern but was not happy with the Andean Silk I choose to knit it with. It is too scratchy for me to wear and started pilling immediately. I’d love to knit this again in a better yarn. My LYS sells Classic Elite Waterlily – I used it to make a pair of Fetching mitts. I think it would make a wonderful scarf as long as the machine “hand dying” doesn’t look too fake in larger chunks. I haven’t seen any of this stuff knit up in blogland.

I’ve had a lot of socks on the needles in the last couple of months.

Monkey knit in koigu purchased from Cookie A. to support Knitters without Borders. I finished these about a month ago and I’ve worn them a lot. The colors are great and of course koigu – perfect. I’m loving the new patterns Cookie has out. I’m not sure I’d ever had a reason to wear knee highs, but I might have to make some because they are just so cool.

I was a total magic loop convert, but I’ve recently fallen in love with double points again. Probably because I was knitting so many socks at once I had to use every needle I owned. Above are Go with the Flow Socks from Interweave’s Favorite Socks in Yarn Pirate merino/tencel Sadie, Traveler’s socks from Nancy Bush’s Knitting on the Road in Yarn Pirate BFL Spruce and Brach’s socks – Trekking 126. Oh, and an apple.
