Oh yes, we all remember that first sweater. Who better than my 1st born to be the grateful recipient of my first sweater? What could better exemplify my love for him than the hours spent on a garment made especially for him? And, let’s face it, he’s small so it was pretty quick.

Note the look of gratitude.
There was pretty much nothing right about this sweater. The yarn was a nasty plastiky acrylic that taught me the beauty of natural fiber. I’d never picked up stitches and thought I intuitively knew what it meant – I was wrong. And after careful knitting, blocking, finishing I present the gift-sweater to my son.

Overall, it appears to be a success.

Posted in Baby Bobbi Bear, Knitting at 9:00 pm by besquared

Baby Bobbi has been fun to knit, but on the home stretch, half way through the first arm I realized the dreaded truth – I ran out of yarn!! I double checked gauge and the length of Bobbi, and they are both right on, so how’d I run out? I guess these things happen… I have another order in to KPixie for another hank – pretty annoying since I only have two inches and two ears left to knit.

I received a nice little package in the mail! Those women at kpixie are pretty fabulous. I placed my order and received it before I forgot what I bought. They even wrapped it in pretty tissue paper.

Yes, its that little Baby Bobbi Bear from Blue Sky Alpacas. Fabulous feeling yarn. I love it already.
Do you think he’ll like it this much?

I also finally received my package from Kendig Cottage with Louet Sales linen for a bubbly curtain. I loved this pattern from Mason Dixon Knitting and I think it’ll be perfecto for my kitchen door. I get bored knitting in neutrals, and this stuff looks pretty unimpressive to me right now, but I don’t think a fushia curtain would be the greatest choice for my kitchen.
But first, to the bear!!!

This was a quick knit using up a little stash.
THE SPECS:
Pattern: Polka Dot Booties from Zoe Mellor’s Adorable Knits for Tots sans polka dots
Yarn: KnitPicks Andean Treasure in Lagoon.
The Skinny: Ok, I love this yarn. The heathering gives it fabulous depth and it is very soft and resilient. I machine washed these and they came out great. My only worry is that they might be itchy on a baby’s delicate feet. Hope not, but we’ll see. The pattern was fine, but it left out details on finishing. It was pretty obvious how to do it, even for me, but it felt like the pattern was incomplete.
The basic structure of these looks exactly like these booties the yarn harlot made from a Zoe Mellor Pattern. Yeah, hers are a lot cuter.
The baby these booties belong to is a week and a half old! I’m excited to give these to baby Jayce tomorrow along with the almost matching outfit.

Hopefully these booties will fit before he’s walking!

Posted in Knitting, Orangina at 1:18 am by besquared
Welcome me to the world of knitting and blogging, blogging and knitting! Here’s what I’m working on right now.

Ok, this is the result of major frogging. I finished orangina back in May, but in my optimism I must’ve stretched the lace when I was measuring because it ended up too short. After two months of it sitting in my closet without wear, I decided it was better to frog and wear than never to wear at all. I didn’t want to add more ribbing, so I ripped out all the ribbing, added three inches of lace pattern and I’m halfway done with the ribbing 2nd time through.
Here’s what it looks like on so far:

Only 3 inches to go!!!
